South Region Analysis – Round of 32

In the wise words of Dennis Green, “They are who we thought they were.” This quote is in regards to Wichita State. This is a team led by two outstanding seniors with incredible March Madness experience. The win against Arizona showed that they not only have the mental aptitude to win in March, but the talent as well. If they keep this moxie going, they can make another run, even as an 11 seed.

Players to watch in the second round: Perry Ellis (Kansas), Danny Hamilton (Connecticut), Fred VanVleet (Wichita State), Ron Baker (Wichita State), Angel Rodriquez (Miami), Jarrod Uthoff (Iowa), Ryan Arcidiacono (Villanova), Melo Trimble (Maryland).

1 KANSAS vs. 9 Connecticut, Saturday 7:45pm on CBS – Uconn had a great second half yesterday, but I don’t see that carrying on for another 40 minutes against a superior team. Connecticut is on a roll right now, but I still have Kansas ending their season tomorrow.

5 MARYLAND vs. 13 Hawaii, Sunday 7:10pm on TBS – Maryland had a bit of a scare late, but was able to hold on. On the other hand, the Rainbow Warriors looked awesome against Cal and are hungry for more. Still, Maryland has much better talent and, unlike Cal, is healthy. The Terps will move on to the Sweet 16.

11 Wichita State vs. 3 MIAMI, Saturday 12:10pm on CBS – Did anyone look better than Wichita State yesterday. Convincing is the best word to describe their victory over Arizona. From start to finish they were the better team. In my opinion, WSU is a team that is playing way better than their seed reflects (though correctly seeded). If they keep it up, Miami will fall just the same way. However, this will be their third game this week. I think they will be tired and Miami will walk away with the win.

7 Iowa vs. 2 VILLANOVA, Sunday 12:10pm on CBS – Is this the year ‘Nova moves on? Simply put…yes. I think they are going to be too much for Iowa who is in an incredible streak of bad games. They barely won yesterday and I do not see them having the firepower to beat Nova barring some changes.

And that’s all I have for now, so this is me…signing off. -Lukas.
